Signed the Contract!
09/26/2010 This morning begins our journey. We signed the contract and handed over a check for the initial purchases. Ed will be back this week to measure and order the windows and take some measurements. We have decided to go with wooden windows to preserve the look of our house that was built in 1800. With painting, windows should last 200 years - well past our stay!

The renovation continues and it is starting to take shape. Three contracts later, we seem to have a final plan. Only snag is that the house is too close to the road (like we built it, haha) and it doesn't fit with the town zoning code so building of the addiction over the garage can't start until variance is approved. Let's keep our fingers crossed on that one! Anyways, the dining room is almost done with plaster and trim around the windows. Need to paint walls and molding. Jerry and I moved the office this weekend and except for painting, that is pretty good. He is seeing clients in the new office as we speak. Next order of business is the new living room which will be great. New staircase in and maybe treads will be put down this week.

There was a chimney here - soon will be stairway to second floor |
Our Dining Room |
The front of the house is essentially done! All there is left to do is the front steps which we will do in the Spring and the lights on the front of the house which we have and will be installed when Ed starts working with the electrical work. Now, phase 2! The front rooms are all emptied and the chimney is gone which actually went pretty uneventfully. Christmas day activities included utilizing Alex and Jeff to move the piano into the kitchen. (Anyone interested in a beautiful antique upright piano for a very reasonable price?) The past two weeks have been mainly about shoring up the ceilings, repairing beams and putting in new posts to even out the floors upstairs. It is amazing how the floors are almost even upstairs. Next order of business is framing the front two rooms, sheetrock, builiding the stairs, and repairing the wood floor. Can't wait to move the dining room table and hutch back in the dining room!
